United Airlines announced a series of leadership changes across its team in Africa, effective on August 1, to enhance and expand its operations across the continent.
Amit Badiani has been named Head of Africa and Offline Sales. In this role, Badiani will oversee United’s entire African operations in South Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana, as well as Morocco from October.
Thorsten Lettnin, Director of Sales for Continental Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Israel, and India at United Airlines, praised Badiani for his 19 years of aviation experience. “Badiani’s leadership will further build on United’s close partnerships with key trade and airline partners as the airline expands to four countries across Africa.”
Oluwatomi Bola-Sadipe’s role as Country Sales Manager for Nigeria and Ghana has now been expanded to include South Africa. She will continue to manage the airline's sales efforts across these key markets.
In South Africa, Penny Alexandrou has been appointed as United’s General Manager in Johannesburg. She will be responsible for the airline’s operations at OR Tambo International Airport.
Alexandrou brings over 24 years of industry experience to the role, and her appointment is expected to enhance service quality in Johannesburg.
These changes come as United this year marks the fifth anniversary of its Cape Town – Newark service and the third anniversary of its Johannesburg – Newark service.
United’s Boeing 777-200ER currently operates between Cape Town and Newark and Washington DC. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner has services between Johannesburg and Newark and from October 27, will also operate between Cape Town and Newark and Washington DC.
