As part of initiatives to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the township of Langa in Cape Town, the city’s economic development and tourism officials are hosting a series of workshops to empower the area’s tourism businesses.
The engagement allows business owners to workshop ideas, learn how they can synergise their products, and hear from the local government about programmes aimed at the tourism industry and SMMEs.
“Through these targeted interventions, the City of Cape Town aims to help community businesses strategise, grow, and ultimately capitalise on the rising number of travellers to our shores. Cape Town had an excellent visitor season this past summer and, through the projects of the City and its partners, it looks as if the next season will be even bigger,” according to James Vos, Cape Town’s Mayoral Member for Economic Growth and Tourism.
The City has kicked off the centennial celebrations, which will also include a sports festival and a major three-day open-air festival. Restorations to historic and tourist attractions, precinct improvements, and public participation on new hero memorials are also planned.
Vos said the events and projects would provide valuable exposure to Langa.
“Cape Town is a rich mosaic of cultures, cuisine, and people that deserve to be celebrated. At the same time, we can take the city’s tourism industry to even greater heights and fulfil our mission of creating a tourism-related job in every home in Cape Town,” said Vos.
