THE Sandton Convention Centre (SCC) brought the world of football together by hosting the 14th annual Soccerex event recently.
With just six months to go before the FIFA 2010 event, soccer excitement was in full swing among enthusiasts from all over the world.
Karin White, GM: Sales and Marketing at SCC, said: “2010 fever is here and is spreading to the farthest corners of our country as we prepare ourselves to welcome the world in June next year.
“This year’s Soccerex was a five-day football fiesta. It is the leading conference on football as a business and offered the global football community a unique platform to network, learn, interact and do business all under one roof,” states White.
All the big names in world football were present, including FIFA President Sepp Blatter, the LOC’s CEO Danny Jordaan and Rafael Salguero, president of the FIFA Executive Committee. Football clubs from around the world were represented at the event, together with bidding nations, international and local business partners, government delegates, the media and football legends. Local football stands included, amongst others, Mamelodi Sundowns, Platinum Stars and Ajax Cape Town together with SABC, the official broadcaster of FIFA 2010.
“This event truly is the meeting place and the melting pot of everything related to the world of football,” comments White. “More than 280 visitors passed through our doors during the event, over and above the main conference and exhibition, during the five days. SCC literally became ‘soccer city’ during Soccerex.”
