Kenya’s famous African Safari Rally was once a part of the World Rally Championship (WRC) annual calendar until Kenya was stripped of its world status by the governing body of motor sport, the FIA.
However, the rally was held again from June 24-27, for the first time since 2002, and the photos and videos of rally cars tearing through the dusty plains of Nairobi have made for some stunning shots.
The WRC recently posted this video and this one showcasing the Safari and its various onlookers – from human spectators to an unfazed giraffe – from the ground and from air.
The winner of the 2021 African Safari Rally was French rally driver Sébastien Ogier.
“It's been an amazing experience to be here. The support we got from the people has been incredible. Thank you so much, you have a beautiful country!” Ogier tweeted about the event. “I will keep unforgettable memories from this first time in Africa, both for the passion of the Kenyan people and for our win on such a selective rally. What an amazing week!”
