While industry has widely welcomed the news that PCR tests are no longer required for vaccinated inbound travellers, many are scratching their heads at the latest clarification by government that only children under the age of five, who are unvaccinated, are exempt from needing a PCR test.
Many say this will be another barrier for families with young children travelling to SA.
Owner of Classic Portfolios, Suzanne Bayly, commented: “It seems beyond crazy that in SA kids under 12 are not eligible for a vaccination, yet they only make the PCR exemption under the age of five years. There is logic in this at all.
“Essentially, we are saying to families with kids between the ages of five and 12, please go elsewhere in the world as we do not need you in South Africa. I am beyond frustrated with our lack of logic from government, especially as I travel with my own children who fall into the vaccinated (13-year-old) and unvaccinated (11-year-old) categories respectively.
