British Airways will expand its LHR-CPT seasonal schedule for the upcoming South African summer season, according to Cape Town Air Access (Wesgro’s air route development project).
BA currently operates a daily service from London Heathrow to Cape Town International Airport.
From the end of October, BA will introduce an additional daily flight. From January 10, 2025 the frequency will increase to three daily services, increasing the total number of weekly flights between Cape Town and London Heathrow to 21.
The increase between London Heathrow and Cape Town will replace the carrier's three-weekly seasonal flights from London Gatwick to Cape Town.
The British Airways London Gatwick service will only operate from December 13, 2024 with the final return flight from Cape Town scheduled for January 8, 2025.
According to Cape Town Air Access, more than 210 000 two-way passengers travelled between the UK and Cape Town in the first half of 2024, which equated to a 7% increase over the same period in 2023.
"The United Kingdom has always been a key market for Cape Town and the Western Cape, and we are thrilled to enhance our connectivity with the introduction of additional daily flights from London Heathrow,'' said Wrenelle Stander, Wesgro CEO and official spokesperson for Cape Town Air Access.
