The Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC) has invited investors to submit proposals for the extension of the country’s national convention centre and construction of a five-star hotel to stimulate MICE tourism.
The LTDC has noted the significant potential of the MICE sector in the capital city, Maseru, which requires upgrading of the anchor facility, the Lesotho National Convention Centre, to accommodate multiple international events simultaneously.
“In recent years, the LTDC has observed growth of the MICE sector within the Maseru CBD and its outskirts. Maseru continues to hold international meetings, conferences and events, which contribute immensely to the local hospitality and tourism sector, indicating huge potential for Lesotho to host many other international events,” the LTDC said in a notice calling for expression of interest from investors.
The LTDC requires the following:
- A “green” five-star hotel with capacity of not less than 100 rooms, presidential and executive suites and standard rooms.
- Expansion of the existing conferencing facility to accommodate between 1 000 and 2 000 delegates.
- Office suites.
- Dining facilities.
- An indoor sporting arena.
Interested bidders are required to submit:
- Company documents with proof of experience in developing and managing similar facilities.
- A business concept.
- Proposed community engagement including small and medium tourism enterprise support.
- Proof of financial capacity.
Bidders will be invited to present their business concepts to an adjudication panel before shortlisting takes place for detailed proposals. Negotiation and selection of the preferred bidder will follow.
The deadline for submissions is December 19.
