Acsa has set up a facility at OR Tambo International Airport for stranded passengers who are waiting for flights to Europe.
Acsa communications and brand manager at OR Tambo airport, Unathi Batyashe-Fillis, says a conference hall has been converted to accommodate around 50 people.
Some airlines, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, and the Salvation Army have joined Acsa in an effort to assist stranded passengers by providing water, food and blankets.
Passengers may have to wait until early May for flights to leave South Africa.
