Cathay Pacific will reinstate its season non-stop Hong Kong-Cape Town service from November to February, 2020.
The seasonal route was first introduced in November last year and will be brought back following strong demand from both South African and Asian-based customers. It will operate alongside Cathay’s existing non-stop daily service from Johannesburg to Hong Kong.
The service will operate three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays with a flight duration of 13 hours and 50 minutes. Flight CX794 will depart Cape Town International Airport at 11h05, arriving at Hong Kong International Airport at around 06h55 the following morning. Return flight CX795 will depart Hong Kong at 00h10, arriving in Cape Town at 08h30.
The flights will be operated by an A350-900, which can accommodate 280 passengers: 38 in business class, 28 in premium economy, and 214 in economy class.
Beverley Schäfer, Western Cape Minister of Economic Opportunities, welcomed the return of the service. "Hong Kong is a major economic hub and a gateway to the rest of Asia, allowing us to develop tourism and trade between the Western Cape and other key regions.”
"The seasonal Hong Kong route has not only connected two popular cities, but it has also affected positive growth,” commented Wesgro CEO, Tim Harris. “Compared to the same period in 2017/18, the seasonal Hong Kong 2018/19 route saw a 10% increase in two-way passengers between the Western Cape and greater Asian market. This means increased business and tourism, and a positive benefit to our local economy.”
