On January 9, Tourism Update published an article entitled ‘Western Cape drought situation by area’, where we reported that Swartland Municipality was experiencing Level 3 water restrictions, according to the Western Cape Government official website.
A reader (ANNE) commented on the article, saying: “Swartland Municipality is on Level 5 restrictions and not level 3. Just wondering how accurate is the info?”
Toursim Update conducted an investigation with the following results:
Swartland Municipality confirmed that the area was experiencing Level 5 restrictions and has been since November 1.
When Tourism Update contacted the Western Cape Government to query the inaccurate information, a spokesperson (speaking on condition of anonymity) revealed that his department was aware of the issue and that the information for the majority of the municipalities might be out of date. He said: “We are unable to update the information until next week as the individuals responsible for the updates are not in the office at the moment. I cannot provide definitive information, however my understanding is that the majority of the municipalities are on level 4 water restrictions and higher, with minor exceptions.”
Tourism Update apologises for the inaccurate information and will publish an article containing the correct information as soon as this can be established and verified.
