Trail runners should mark Saturday, September 21, on their calendars as the day to be at the starting line of the KafueWild race in Kafue National Park.
A joint effort between the Zambian Department of National Parks and Wildlife, African Parks, Kafue National Park and the Wildlife Ranger Challenge, the race has 10km and 21km routes open to the public, and a 21km option for rangers who each run with a 22kg backpack to prove their extraordinary fitness through challenging terrain.
Located in western Zambia, Kafue is the oldest and largest of Zambia’s national parks, covering 22 400sqkm.
The park is home to 21 species of antelope and 515 species of bird, with a mix of woodland, grasslands and aquatic habitats that support diverse species, including big cats.
