Kenya Airways is working on reinstating direct flights between Gaborone and Nairobi. The airline suspended the flights in November 2016 as part of its network restructuring.
“A number of MoUs were signed by government of Botswana and government of Kenya. One was on ICT, one on bilateral air service agreement which will allow for the resumption of direct flights between Gaborone and Nairobi operated by Kenya Airways and Air Botswana,” said Botswana’s Eric Mokgweetsi Masisi.
Juliet Zintambila, Country Manager of Kenya Airways Botswana, told Tourism Update that Kenya Airways was constantly evaluating different potential destinations and assessing the various options from across Africa. “Resumption of the Gaborone route is still a work in progress with no definite date as of now… The signing of the Air Services Agreement has opened a new beginning that is greatly expected to strengthen the process. We will initiate conversations between all the relevant parties and authorities and communicate officially through the process.”
Kenya Airways, a member of the SkyTeam alliance, flies to 56 destinations worldwide, 43 of which are in Africa, and carries over four million passengers annually.
