Two projects in Zambia totalling €118 million ($126m) will include two major hotels.
Society House in Lusaka, which is now nearing completion, includes a three-star Hilton Garden Inn, and in Kitwe, construction on the €26 million ($28m) Tsogo Sun Garden Court hotel started in November.
The Hilton Garden Inn will comprise 148 rooms – 96 standard king-size bedrooms, 48 twin bedrooms and four executive suites. Facilities include a conferencing centre, gym, swimming pool, outdoor deck and restaurant.
Robert Silke, Cape Town architect, says the 130-room Garden Court is intended for business hospitality and as accommodation for longer-term residents working in Kitwe. The hotel will cover a wide range of functions, including serving as a high-end conference facility. Its outdoor areas have views of the nearby Kitwe Stream.
“Both buildings are urban regeneration projects – Society House is a €93 million ($100m) investment in Lusaka's inner city, and Garden Court Kitwe is a €24 million ($26m) investment in Zambia's hitherto neglected Copperbelt,” says Silke.
