The Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Authority (ZimParks) has successfully rescued a German tourist, Andreas Hoberg, who had gone missing on Saturday, October 21.
Tinashe Farawo, the spokesperson for ZimParks, provided details of the rescue, stating that Hoberg was found safe and well in Matusadona National Park, along with his rental car, three days after his disappearance.
Hoberg's last known location was at the park's shop, where he purchased a drink before embarking on a game drive around 15h30. On the same day, he failed to return by the standard end time for game drives at 18h00, and efforts to locate him using the car-rental agency's GPS system were unsuccessful due to poor phone network coverage in the area.
Preliminary findings suggest that Hoberg's car had experienced a mechanical fault. Authorities responded promptly, deploying a helicopter, vehicles, and sniffer dogs to search the vast 1 400 square kilometre park, which is inhabited by a variety of wildlife, including lions, buffalo, leopards, and elephants.
Further details regarding the tourist's age, health status and exact location within the park are yet to be confirmed.
