Namibian President Hage Geingob annnounced additional measures to contain the spread the extension of the Coronavirus in Namibia and extended the lockdown until at least May 4. The lockdown was due to come to an end at midnight on April 16.
The lockdown was previously applied to the Khomas region, including Windhoek, the Erongo region, including Swakopmund and Walvis Bay as well as the towns of Okahandja and Rehoboth, will now be enforced countrywide.
Geingob said ,in a televised address to the country on April 14, that new strict measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 will be implemented such as the suspension of mining operations.
Informal trading and open markets are still allowed to operate subject to following stricy hygiene and social distacing measures, as well as limiting the number of people who can gather.
