The Namibian government has announced plans to repair and upgrade roads in the Zambezi region. The announcement was made on Monday, June 18, by the Zambezi Regional Governor, Lawrence Sampofu.
Sampofu told media that the region had laid out a five-year plan with the Roads Authority (RA). “The Zambezi region has experienced heavy rains and subsequent heavy floods. As a result, these natural calamities caused damage to national infrastructure, including roads in the region.”
The region is home to a number of nature reserves, private game farms and lodges.
One of the key routes for repairs is the Ngoma-Ibbu road, which lies within the Salambala Conservancy. This road was submerged by flood waters, which have since dried up. The RA has appointed a contractor for the repair of this road, which will form part of the greater Bukalo-Muyako-Ngoma road upgrade.
