The new R60 million Century City Station is due to open in May in time for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
The new station, which is part of the Cape Town City Council’s Bus Rapid Transport system, is being built across the N1 highway at the Sable Road bridge with a new road and pedestrian link for commuters.
The R5 million pedestrian link project, starting at the Sable Road bridge, will include widening the pedestrian pavement on the bridge, the construction of a subway under the Sable Road northbound ramp joining up with an existing culvert under the railway line coming out at the back of Ratanga Junction before linking up with Century Boulevard.
There will be a pedestrian access control point and CCTV coverage.
