Hideaways Mankwe Tented Retreat has opened on the eastern edge of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, offering a private and eco-conscious safari experience. Located within a 365 000 hectare concession, the lodge is just 85km from Maun and provides access to key destinations, including Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park.
The retreat features 10 elevated Meru-style tented suites – each with private balconies overlooking the surrounding mopane forest. Designed with sustainability in mind, the solar-powered suites include en-suite bathrooms, twin basins and a shower with bushveld views. Guests can choose between king or twin beds and benefit from amenities such as fans, tea and coffee stations and wireless internet in the business lounge.
Facilities include two pools, two communal lounges and a spa offering guests relaxation between game drives. The lodge also hosts open-air boma dinners with traditional Setswana meals prepared over an open fire.
Guests have access to the Mankwe concession for game drives with sightings of elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dogs. Birdwatching is another highlight with the region’s wetlands and woodlands supporting diverse species, including Pel’s fishing owl. Seasonal Okavango Delta waters allow for additional experiences such as mokoro rides and boating trips.
The property is close to Maun International Airport, road transfers and helicopter flights. The lodge is also within reach of the Khwai River Airport for those seeking seamless air travel options. Self-drivers can access the retreat via a two-hour journey from Maun.
