Botswana’s Mashatu Game Reserve has announced two significant leadership appointments.
Peter Bale has been promoted to Operations Director. Born and raised in Mathathane, Botswana, Bale’s journey with Mashatu began in December 2013 as Assistant Lodge Manager. His dedication, leadership and passion for hospitality enabled him to quickly rise through the ranks to become Hospitality General Manager and now Operations Director.
Bale’s extensive experience in the safari and hospitality industries, combined with his international exposure in the USA, prepared him to oversee the day-to-day operations of Mashatu’s expanding portfolio. Under his management, Mashatu has grown from two to six commercial camps, further solidifying its reputation as one of Botswana’s premier wildlife reserves.
His deep connection to Mashatu is evident in his own words: “Working at Mashatu is more than just a job; it’s a lifestyle. My passion for the hospitality industry and the incredible team at Mashatu have kept me here for nearly 11 years. As Operations Director, my goal is to drive growth, uphold the highest standards of customer service and ensure that Mashatu continues to lead in conservation and sustainable tourism”.
Mark Kelly has been appointed to the Mashatu Nature Reserve Board as a Non-Executive Director, bringing with him extensive experience in commercial operations. In addition to this role, Kelly serves as Director of Mashatu Investments, managing the reserve’s commercial operations. His strategic focus on sustainable tourism will play a crucial role in the long-term conservation of Mashatu’s pristine wildlife and empowerment of the local community through job creation.
Kelly’s diverse professional background includes his current positions as Director of Global Property Investments for Pula Limited and CEO of the Ashton Gate Sporting Quarter. His appointment strengthens Mashatu’s commitment to growth and sustainability, ensuring that the reserve remains a top destination for eco-conscious travellers.
Claire Roadley of Umlingo Travel PR, based in the UK, has been appointed to manage Mashatu's international PR, following a successful media trip to Mashatu Euphorbia in July.
