Okahirongo Elephant Lodge in the remote northwest of Namibia, owned and operated by Sanctuary Retreats, has undergone an extensive refurbishment and is expected to reopen in April.
The lodge has seven private suites and a two-bedroom family suite with two bathrooms. Each of the suites, including the family suite, has a private terrace and verandah.
Natasha Patterson, Sanctuary Retreats’ Marketing Manager, told Tourism Update: “Elephant Lodge will be completely refurbished, with a completely new colour scheme, new interiors and new furniture throughout.” The new bathrooms will feature an indoor shower carved and rendered in bleached-white plaster.
“The main lounge will be decorated with chunky shelves surrounding an open fire, sofas and chairs to create comfortable seating areas, and soothing umber tones.”
Facilities include an infinity pool and communal spaces with panoramic views.
Okahirongo Elephant Lodge is situated in the wilderness of Kaokoland, on the banks of the Hoarusib riverbed in the Purros Conservancy. It is accessible by air from Windhoek with the airstrip just 30-40 minutes from the lodge. Driving time from Windhoek is about 12 hours.
Activities at the lodge, which Sanctuary Retreats acquired in May last year, include scenic drives with Himba guides.
