The tourism industry wants the new board of South African Tourism to prioritise destination marketing, as well as job creation and sector recovery, according to our latest poll.
Following the announcement of the new board, 52% of respondents said destination marketing should be the top priority for SA Tourism, and 37% said the main focus should be on sector recovery and job creation. Seven percent of respondents said the priority should be advancement of SMMEs, while 4% selected expanding market access for women and the youth.
Can SMMEs compete at trade shows?
SMMEs often find it difficult to compete against large, established companies that can already count on loyal networks of buyers for business. At trade shows, this poses significant challenges in terms of deal-making and breaking into to the market. With smaller budgets to consider, the majority of SMMEs have to carefully weigh up whether the outlay of attending trade shows is worth the attracted investment.
