Fair Trade Tourism (FTT) has launched a new website showcasing tourism businesses that are creating better places to live, work, and visit by embracing FTT principles and responsible tourism in their operations.
Travellers can now easily find these sustainability leaders on the FTT website by geographic location, type of business, and types of experiences offered.
Recent research conducted by Booking.com of more than 29 000 travellers across 30 countries showed that 61% believed the ‘pandemic has influenced them to want to travel more sustainably’, with 73% saying ‘authentic experiences that are representative of the local culture’ are high on their list, and 76% indicating that they want the economic impact of their travel choices to be spread equally across all levels of society.
These are the characteristics that FTT-certified businesses and FTT-approved tour operators embrace in their operations, and which have been independently verified.
Lisa Scriven, Programme Manager of FTT, is excited about the impact that such a platform will have for featured tourism businesses: “As we prepare for global travel to resume, FTT is ensuring that the ‘FTT family’ is featured prominently as the ultimate hosts for travellers – as the champions for people and planet in the destination. Now more than ever before, travellers have had time to reflect on how they want to spend their time (and their money), what types of business they spend it with, and, importantly, how that impacts on making positive change.”
