Thompsons Africa is proud to be part of a joint initiative with The Travel Corporation family of brands, called The TreadRight Foundation — a not-for-profit organisation that works to ensure that the environment and communities we explore, remain vibrant for future generations.
TreadRight is The Travel Corporation’s hub for all corporate social responsibility efforts and manages a long-standing grants programme that benefits sustainable tourism projects. To date, TreadRight has committed more than US$2million to projects worldwide and encourages industry best practice through its support of the World Travel & Tourism Council’s Tourism for Tomorrow Awards, The Travel Foundation and Tourism Cares.
Thompsons Africa Conservation Statement:
‘At Thompsons Africa we are mindful of the plight of wildlife across the globe and in Africa in particular. We are especially conscious of the importance of conserving our wildlife heritage. After all, we are blessed to be the caretakers of an abundance of wildlife that brings so many travellers to our shores. Thompsons Africa does not support any wildlife interaction that we deem to be unethical in either its purpose or in any way results in cruelty as a side effect. As a priority we ensure that we are 100% involved with our partnered wildlife organisations, and as a member of The TreadRight Foundation, we practise the promise to make the welfare of our wildlife our number-one concern.’
We support a number of local communities, have adopted our own rhino at Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre and practise our Green Method Mission Statement ‘to implement sustainable green methods, to reduce our usage of precious resources, to recycle and reuse whatever we can, to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of the future generations’ needs!’
On World Tourism Day, September 27, 2019, Thompsons Africa committed to MAKING TRAVEL MATTER.
“The world is looking to the potential impact our travel has on the world and powered by our not-for-profit TreadRight Foundation, we are making public our commitment to Make Travel Matter for the better,” says Thompsons Africa.
Inspired by leading destinations across the globe, every one of our team members and sister companies worldwide are pledging to make travel matter. Our pledge stands for people, for wildlife and for our planet. Together, we can work to ensure that the places we visit remain vibrant for generations to come.”
Make Travel Matter Pledge
I will make my travel matter – for our planet, for people and for wildlife.
When I explore this planet, I will do my best to tread right. I will refuse single-use plastics when I can and recycle what I cannot avoid. When possible, I will offset my travels.
When I meet new people, I will honour their home as I do my own and do so in the spirit of diversity and inclusion. I will purchase locally made items wherever possible and pay a fair price.
When I experience wildlife, I will do so in nature. I will not ride animals that ought not be ridden, nor support animal cruelty in any way.
Together, we will tread right upon the earth – and we will make our travel matter.
