Botswana’s Kasane International Airport’s upgraded terminal building will open officially on February 22, led by President Seretse Khama Ian Khama.
The original terminal building, which was built in 1991, has been expanded from 1 300 to 7 800 sqm. The runway and surrounding areas have also been extended and provision has been made for airfield ground lighting and an electrified boundary fence.
Air connectivity has been perceived as the weak link in the tourism value chain, which the refreshed terminal will now address.
Modipe Chris Nkwe, Head of Public Affairs at the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana, says: “The airport is a gateway to the famous Chobe National Park. The upgrade of the airport terminal is part of Botswana’s aim of turning Kasane into a regionally competitive tourist hub.”
