This Video of the Week was taken at the weekend on Hartbeespoort Dam, about 35km northwest of Johannesburg.
The dam’s name translates to ‘gorge of the hartebeest’, a large African antelope.

Planning for Harties began back in 1902, and the dam was eventually constructed between 1921 and 1923.
Today, one of the Latin inscriptions on the dam’s arch translates to ‘For I shall pour down rain on thirsty land, showers on dry ground’.
