After a torrential downpouring of rain earlier this week, the Garden Route Dam – located in Loerie Park, George – reached maximum capacity before overflowing completely.
Onne Vegter and Simon Vegter from Wild Wings Safaris shared some images and a video, respectively, with Tourism Update.
Normally the dam is surrounded by trails frequented by cyclists, runners and hikers, but as the George Flood spilled over into surrounding towns on Monday (November 22), images of cars almost entirely submerged and people on small boats floating down waterlogged roads were widely shared on social media.
