Sanctuary Retreats will open the new Sanctuary Chief’s Camp in Botswana on June 1, following a complete rebuild.
The camp, which is Sanctuary Retreats’ flagship property, is on Chief’s Island in the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta.
The new pavilions are bigger than the original rooms and boast views of the Delta from the private terrace plunge pools or from the outdoor seating areas.

The new bathrooms, which have floor-to-ceiling windows and folding glass doors, also have an outdoor shower and large bathtub. Two connecting suites are now available, which together can accommodate up to six guests. The suites are ideal for families or groups and offer a private kitchen, indoor lounge, a private boma with fire pit, secluded deck area, a private vehicle with its own guide, a personal waiter and a private housekeeper.
All the main and public areas have been refurbished; the library and bar have been newly designed; the dining room has been extended and includes a pizza oven and pizza deck. The camp also has a new fitness centre, children’s retreat and new orientation room where guests can learn about the Delta before going on game drives.
A solar farm, which is one of the largest in Botswana, provides power to the camp.
Pieter van der Schee, Global Director Sales and Marketing for Sanctuary Retreats said: “We believe Sanctuary Chief’s Camp now takes the luxury safari experience in Botswana to new levels, with fabulous rooms, a superb location and exceptional service, game viewing and guides. As with all our camps and lodges in Africa, we have worked with local craftsmen and authorities to minimise the impact on the environment and to offer our guests natural luxury that respects the local surroundings.”
