The first phase of expansion and refurbishment of the Nairobi Serena Hotel – which began in December last year – is set for completion by January. The second phase will begin shortly thereafter.
The Northern wing now comprises 96 reconfigured and upgraded guestrooms and suites, and a new floor of guest rooms.
The latest Serena Hotels newsletter reports that the expansion includes a new ballroom with capacity for 385 guests, and new meeting rooms that include executive rooms with state-of-the-art facilities.
A new parking area is also expected to be ready early next year.
Tourism Promotion Services (TPS) Eastern Africa, Serena Group of Companies, received a $20 million loan in 2015 from French development agency, Proparco to fund the work on Nairobi Serena Hotel, as well as the Kampala Serena Hotel and Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel.
TPS Managing Director, Mahmud Janmohamed, said: “When the expansion and refurbishment of Nairobi Serena Hotel is complete, it will be a premier city hotel in Nairobi.” He said the new investment would boost the group’s hospitality services and enable it grow market share.
