A brand new luxury tented camp, Mara Siana, is poised to open in the newly formed conservancy, Mara Ripoi (just outside Kenya’s famed Masai Mara National Reserve) on June 10. The camp is one of the founding members of the conservancy that was officially established on February 15 this year.
The 7 700-hectare Mara Ripoi conservancy was established to expand the protected land for wildlife, and is leased from the local Maasai. The land is now patrolled by 22 full-time rangers employed from the community. Only three small camps are located within the conservancy for exclusive use, with no other tourist vehicles permitted in the area.
Mara Siana will consist of eight tents - six double en-suite tents and two family tents, with each family tent having two bedrooms, each with its own two bathrooms. The tents each feature a private deck, double vanity bathroom, and are powered by solar energy to provide hot running water.
The camp's amenities include a dining area, and there are plans to construct a gym in the near future. Activities include game drives, bush walks, village visits, night drives, cultural walks, balloon safaris, spear and arrow throwing, walking safaris, and visits to local schools.
The camp is a 90-minute drive from Narok, approximately ten kilometers before the Sekenani gate entrance to the Masai Mara. It is also accessible by air, with the Siana Springs airstrip (ten minutes away) or the Keekorok airstrip (one hour away) being viable options.
