Blue Waters Hotel on the North Beach section of Durban’s Golden Mile had to evacuate guests and staff when a small fire broke out on the ground floor of the hotel early on Wednesday morning.
Duty Manager Ettienne Jacobs told Tourism Update that there were just over 200 guests at the hotel at the time and they were evacuated at 7:24am. Two and a half hours later the property was up and running.
“Only the entrance to the basement car park and some of the rooms are out of order for deep cleaning, but otherwise the hotel is operational,” he confirmed.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated and the hotel is running on power from its backup generator.
