Due to a surge in demand, Swiss airline Edelweiss is bringing the winter season route to Cape Town forward to August 30 instead of the end of September as previously stated.
Spokesperson for the airline, Andreas Marti, told Tourism Update that the carrier was also adding a flight over a weekend, bringing the total number of weekly flights to four.
Edelweiss is a sister carrier of SWISS and a member of the Lufthansa Group.
“The news of Edelweiss’s expanded schedule is a wonderful affirmation of the popularity of Cape Town for our visitors,” said City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee for Economic Growth, James Vos.
“Securing more flights to our destination is an important point in our strategy to unlock more tourism-related jobs for Capetonians. It, therefore, gives me great pleasure to see that our efforts have delivered tangible results.”
Western Cape Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities, Mireille Wenger, recently said the international terminal at Cape Town International Airport had seen a 90% year-on-year growth for the first four months of 2023 – when compared with the same period in 2022 – with over one million passengers passing through the terminal.
Flights for the Zurich/Cape Town route can be booked from August 30 to May 2024.
