The coastal town of Hermanus will be hosting the 12th FynArts Festival from June 7-17. The festival is a celebration of creativity in all its forms – visual, musical, literary, culinary, and performance.
The diverse programme runs over ten days and offers everything from theatre and live music in every genre, to art exhibitions, talks, workshops, and food and wine experiences.
The Marine Hotel, a member of The Liz McGrath Collection, is situated in the heart of Hermanus on the cliff path overlooking Walker Bay. The hotel is within walking distance to various FynArts activities and exhibitions and offers accommodation options for festivalgoers.
This includes sea-facing rooms where by June – when whale season should be in full swing – whale watching may be possible.
Well-established as a vibrant cultural hub for the arts, Hermanus offers no less than 21 art galleries. As part of the FynArts Festival, The Marine will host an exhibition of indoor sculptures of 13 artists. These include 11 well-established artists who also have larger sculptures on display on the cliffs around Gearing’s Point.
During the festival, The Marine’s pool courtyard will furthermore serve as the venue for a Bonsai exhibition to showcase a selection of some of the locally grown specimens of this ancient art form.
Before or after browsing the exhibitions, festivalgoers are welcome to visit The Sun Lounge at The Marine to enjoy ocean views, along with coffee, drinks, light snacks, or afternoon tea.
The hotel’s Pavilion Restaurant is open for bookings for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, inviting non-resident guests too to experience Head Chef Oelof Vorster’s dishes which focus on local flavours and fresh ingredients.
As part of the FynArts Culinary Series of vegan and vegetarian dishes, Chef Vorster will present a food demonstration on Monday, June 10 at 15h00 in the United Church Hall. He will share his cooking tips and trade secrets while preparing a roasted tomato risotto.
