The IIE School of Hospitality & Service Management (IIE HSM), has added two new courses to its curriculum.
The news comes ahead of the school’s upcoming Open Day, which will be held at its Cape Town and Johannesburg campuses on Saturday, May 11, from 09h00 to 12h00.
The two new courses are:
- The IIE Bachelor of Service Management – a full-time three-year course curated to develop students into effective service managers within various industries. Key to this programme is instilling an understanding of service as a universal language of business. Students are supported in developing advanced commercial communications skills through an engagement with theory, focusing especially on service management, customer engagement, and business management, as well as key managerial skills that aim to set them apart in the industry, particularly leadership and revenue management and research-based decision-making.
- The IIE Diploma in Foodservice Management & Nutrition – a three-year contact and distance learning (online) course that aims to develop business acumen in the food service industry, focusing on expert knowledge of nutrition and food and beverage management, with business skills completed through a practical focus on food service law, business communications, and project management. The conceptual learning in class is supported by experiential learning through placement with industry partners to ensure students graduate with an ideal balance between theory and practice.
Attendees to the Open Day will have the opportunity to interact with the schools’ lecturers and speak to expert advisers who will assist in their hospitality and service careers.
The school’s academic operations administrator, Yolanda Mlangeni, says: “IIE HSM offers programmes that are aligned with industry needs and trends, providing practical skills and knowledge to attract students seeking relevant and up-to-date education. Another plus is that it is part of AdVtech, a large successful listed group, which ensures compliance and corporate governance.
“Many of our alumni have been successful because of our high-quality education, rigorous academic programmes, and relevant coursework, all of which contribute to the development of strong foundational knowledge and skills amongst our students.”
Mlangeni’s views are echoed by IIE HSM lecturer Dustin Pieterson: “We constantly adapt our course material so that it is always relevant, and this increases our students’ chances of employment post-graduation.”
