Southern Spoor has added the trendy BlackBrick hotel in Sandton to its portfolio.
With an exposed black brick façade, BlackBrick is a striking mixed-use residential building setting a new trend in urban hospitality. The unique-concept hotel is part of a growing drive to revitalise disused commercial properties and repurpose them.
“BlackBrick fits perfectly into our portfolio of extraordinary venues that deliver memorable experiences,” said Director of Southern Spoor, Anita Foxcroft.
“While there may not be a shortage of accommodation options in Sandton, BlackBrick brings a modern, trend-setting concept to hospitality in terms of the design, atmosphere, facilities and services. It is within walking distance of the Sandton Gautrain, Sandton City shopping mall and the Sandton Convention Centre, and will appeal to a wide range of target markets, from international travellers to corporate and government guests.”
The hotel, which officially opens in November, is set across two floors of the BlackBrick building and will offer 75 apartment-style guest rooms featuring energy-saving technology, fast WiFi, USB chargers and smart TVs. The hotel has quirky features such as a DJ box in the reception area, and five Mini Coopers on site on a car-sharing app for guests' use.
There are two restaurants on site and all guest rooms are fitted with kitchenettes for self-catering.
Hotel guests get free access to the BlackBrick members' club facilities and experiences, which include a cinema, library, roof-top boma, yoga meditation garden and boxing gym. A personal trainer and weekly boot camp are also on offer.
The building also offers a range of flexible, inspiring work and meeting spaces for individuals, groups and conferences, supported by high-speed fibre.
BlackBrick was founded by millennial entrepreneur, Moritz Wellensiek. “We are excited to be working with Moritz to launch this fresh, high-energy hotel to local and international travel and corporate markets,” said Foxcroft. “BlackBrick will offer affordable, unique accommodation in a desirable location, and a range of cool services that will make the hotel a destination in itself.”
