All accommodation establishments are being asked to compile details of guests from high-risk countries, as a precautionary effort to contain COVID-19.
According to a statement from Tourism Business Council of South Africa CEO, Tshifhiwa Tshivhengwa, the Minister of Tourism is calling for all hotels and accommodation establishments to compile a list of tourists from high-risk countries, including personal details, entry date into South Africa and places visited.
The statement originally stated that “no tourist from high-risk countries should be allowed to check in or out of any accommodation establishments across the country”.
This has, however, been corrected by SA Tourism CEO, Sisa Ntshona, who said international tourists would be allowed to leave, and asked only that respective establishments ensured that they went to airports and kept a record of the movement.
In a newsflash from SATSA offering further clarity, the organisation urged that travellers from high-risk countries were not to be turned away from establishments, but should be checked in and documented as requested.
The clarification follows an industry update issued by SA Tourism today, containing a temporary link for accommodation establishments to upload the collected information. It said a permanent link would be shared within 72 hours.
