South African National Parks has begun welcoming visitors to the Kruger National Park for the Easter holidays, and is urging visitors to observe the rules of the park that are primarily intended to ensure safe and pleasant experiences.
The park is expecting an increased number of visitors this Easter as it coincides with the school holidays, and has thus far recorded high occupancy rates for both camping and accommodation.
Gate quotas will be implemented for day visitors during the Easter long weekend (March 29 to April 1) and visitors are advised to book online ahead of their visit.
Special attention is also drawn to operational times as it pertains to the gate quotas:
- Time slot 1: 06h00 to 08h00
- Time slot 2: 08h00 to 10h00
- Time slot 3: 10h00 onwards
Plans for increased visibility of both traffic officials and visitor management personnel to monitor speeding, after-hours travelling and general behaviour on the roads are being implemented.
SANParks is also urging visitors to co-operate with officials who will be on duty and to report unbecoming behaviour to the gate officials or call the emergency call centre number on the entry permits.
“Visitors are urged to plan their trips and allow sufficient time to enjoy the bush, relax and arrive safely at their destination. Visitors are also urged not to tamper with road signage such as the removal of road closure signs as it can pose a danger to other motorists who might enter prohibited parts of the park,” SANParks said in a press release.
“Usage of roads on prohibited areas will result in the issue of fines. Visitors should consult reception and the gates for updated information on road closures or visit our social media platforms.”
