Cape Town Deputy Mayor Alderman Ian Neilson officially launched the Military Heritage Route in Cape Town last week.
The route showcases the rich military heritage that Cape Town has to offer.
Neilson said one of the ways Cape Town planned to tackle the issue of seasonality was to develop heritage and culture as a niche market. “Military heritage tourism was identified as one of the niche markets that are resilient throughout the year,” said Neilson. “Significant military heritage sites in Cape Town include the Castle of Good Hope, the South African Naval Museum in Simon’s Town and the Chavonnes Battery Museum in the V&A Waterfront.”
These three sites form the start of the Military Heritage Route, which is expected to grow over time to include other sites that are currently being developed and improved.
“I encourage all to take the time to explore this unique new offering, and learn more about our rich and diverse history,” added Neilson.
