Namibia is leveraging technology to drive travel recovery post-COVID with the launch of the Namibia Tourism Board’s new website as well as the Digital Marketing Campaign and Foreign Missions Toolkit.
Speaking at the launch event, Minister of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, Pohamba Shifeta, said the global tourism space was a fiercely competitive market.
"The tourism industry needs to be at the very edge of innovation leadership in digital travel technology, as the industry rethinks and reimagines travel and destination marketing in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution," he said.
Shifeta pointed out that the deployment of technology was a crucial tool for forging a direct path between markets, trade partners and influencers in the consumer circles and the media, changing the way that tourists interact with destinations and with each other.
He said the new website would serve as an authoritative source for providing current general country information about border crossing, Namibia’s foreign missions, national parks, major attractions and businesses, as well as a marketing toolkit, among others.
The website also has a dedicated section for promoting community-based tourism initiatives. It will also serve as a resource centre for students and academic researchers who are looking for verified information about the history, culture, heritage and tourism destinations, as well as general information on destination Namibia.
As part of the digital campaign, the Ministry has produced a video that culminates in beautiful footage of the country, which will be uploaded on the new website.
