Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) has announced that work at Hardap Dam and Gross Barmen resorts is nearing completion. They closed for renovations three years ago and are expected to open by the first week of December.
The Hardap Dam resort, near Mariental in southern Namibia, closed after the restaurant burned down due to an electrical fault in the kitchen area. The Gross Barmen Resort, 100km from Windhoek, closed to allow for a major revamp.
The first phase of renovations at the Hardap Dam resort included a revamp of the administration building, the swimming pool, the conference centre, restaurant and five VIP bungalows. The second phase will see the renovation of its bush chalets, expected to be completed in March next year.
Gross Barmen resort has 50 bungalows, including family VIP rooms, as well as a gym, sauna and camping site. A few units have facilities to cater for Muslims.
Staff will no longer live at the resorts, except those on duty and NWR will instead provide transport and housing allowances.
Activities at the resorts include angling, water rafting, boat cruising, picnicking, bird watching and camping.
