The new Lake Manyara South Airstrip in Tanzania, once open, will significantly reduce transfer times to surrounding lodges.
The airstrip was meant to open on June 1, however due to unseasonal rain in the country, the opening has been delayed until July 1, says Niall Anderson, &Beyond Regional Director for East Africa, who mentions that the airstrip will reduce transfer times to &Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge to a 20-minute drive.
Lake Manyara South Airstrip can be accessed by lodges in the vicinity, however as it is owned by the local village and managed by &Beyond, Anderson says operators and lodges should request permission prior to utilising the airstrip.
Lake Manyara South Airstrip will be seasonal and will close occasionally, as it is close to the lake. If water levels get too high, the airstrip’s surface will become too wet for landing or take-off.
