Great Plains Conservation will open Mara Nyika, a sister camp to Mara Plains, on August 1 in Kenya’s Naboisho Conservancy, just in time for the migration.
Mara Nyika, an intimate four-tent camp, is set in a valley straddling a small stream. The canvas tents – which were designed by Great Plains Conservation’s Founder, Dereck Joubert – sit under the canopy of umbrella thorn trees and offer guests views out over the bush.
The camp can accommodate up to eight guests, and has an additional guide’s tent.
Children from eight years old and over are welcome and can be accommodated in the family suite.
Walkways from the tents to the main area allow guests privacy.
Guests can explore the private game-rich 20 234 hectares of the conservancy on early-morning, late-afternoon and evening game drives in an open 4x4 vehicle, and can explore further afield with safari drives into the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Other activities include balloon flights across the Maasai Mara (at an additional cost), and guests are also given the opportunity to get to know more about the local Maasai community.
Guests’ stay enables Great Plains Conservation to support over 500 Maasai families with a sustainable livelihood through payment of conservation fees, which in turn ultimately ensure the conservation of the wildlife in this vital corridor of the Maasai Mara eco-system.
