Newly launched Kusa Africa Travel Services has created an opportunity amidst this year’s COVID chaos.
In isiZulu, the term ‘uKusa’ literally translated to ‘dawn’, said founder, Graeme Watson. “It’s a new dawn in African travel, almost a rising up from the damage of 2020.”
Although it is a turbulent time in the tourism industry, Watson sees it as a unique opportunity to start a business.
“Kusa is an association of industry experts. We saw so many job losses in 2020 and I just wanted to gather up all of those industry minds to create a truly expert organisation,” he told Tourism Update.
Currently Kusa’s team consists of six travel industry experts but Watson is hoping to expand this to about 15. “I really want this to be a credible DMC and don’t want the talent to disperse. South Africa needs the expertise.”
With his more than 12 years of industry experience, Watson said clients would have access to the best deals and travel advice available.
“We are currently focused on the local and domestic market and have already confirmed a few bookings. Now is the time for South Africans and our regional neighbours to explore South Africa in a way they haven’t been able to before.”
He said Kusa would begin marketing to the international market once it was clear which markets would be open.
