A 54-passenger boat has been launched on Lake Victoria, Uganda, which will transport passengers from Entebbe to Jinja, twice a day, on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Jinja offers tourists a number of adventure activities, including white water rafting, kayaking and bungee jumping into the River Nile. The 2.5-hour journey will cut travelling time between the destinations significantly, with the journey by road taking up to five hours, owing to traffic jams and poor road conditions.
The transfer aims to reduce journey time and enhance tourists’ experience, as well as offering tourists another way to experience the country and its offerings. Passing several islands along the way, travellers will be exposed to views of Lake Victoria, the Ugandan coastline, and the birdlife.
Speaking at the launch of the MV Vanessa, Uganda Tourism Board CEO, Lilly Ajarova, said water bodies in Uganda were being under-utilised, and the launch of the boat marked the beginning of utilising Lake Victoria and other water bodies for the benefit of Ugandans and the international community”.
Schedule is as follows:
- MV Vanessa leaves Entebbe at 09h00 , and arrives at Jinja at 11h30.
- It leaves Railway Port in Jinja at 14h00, and arrives in Entebbe at 16h30.
Uganda has committed to grow its tourism numbers to 2.1m by the end of this year.
