Tourism graded establishments are to receive digital training to upskill their hospitality offering.
The online training intervention is a result of growing demand for training, through feedback provided during the monthly establishment survey and other engagements. The training is being conducted through a partnership with the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA), the International Hotel School and private training and education institution Summit.
The majority of graded establishments requesting this training are small, family-operated and lack formal hospitality training, according to the TGCSA.
Front-desk operations, guest room attendants, housekeeping and cleaning of guest rooms, and restaurant service have been identified as four important training programmes
The four training videos will be accompanied by a toolkit that graded establishments can use once they have completed the training. The link of the videos and toolkit will also form part of the Post Assessment Confirmation email sent to properties after grading approval.
"TGCSA has noticed that some of the smaller establishments lack basic training and in order for them to attain their grading, they need to meet basic grading requirements. Once graded, it’s important to ensure that they maintain the quality standards, which is why continued training is important. This training intervention is a value add for graded establishment as well as to assist establishments to maintain their grading and achieve higher grading levels," says Darryl Erasmus, Chief Quality Assurance Officer of TGCSA.
