A group of 11 top travel agents from the United Kingdom were recently in Plettenberg Bay. This was part of an organised educational tour in collaboration with Wesgro, South African Tourism, Garden Route and Klein Karoo Tourism offices, and the Plett Tourism Association.
The group spent June 15 visiting the Plettenberg Bay area, with their first activity being a guided marine safari with Ocean Blue Adventures.
From May to October, Plettenberg Bay is part of the migratory whale route for several species. Southern right whales, humpback whales and the local Bryde’s whale are all in abundance during this period.
Patty Butterworth, Media Relations Officer for Plett Tourism, said: “Our primary focus was to showcase whale season. At this time of year, we also have three species of dolphin, Bryde’s whales, African penguins, African seals and great white sharks.”
The group also visited the Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary where they were able to see the work being done there.
“We have several animal sanctuaries in the area,” said Butterworth, adding: “Jukani is home to a number of species of big cats as well as other interesting species like the African wild dog.”
“The group experienced the full Garden Route. We were able to show them a winter alternative to visiting the big cities and what the Garden Route has to offer, in particular the wildlife adventures on offer,” concluded Butterworth.
