The Afsaal picnic spot, a renowned visitor stop between Malelane gate and Skukuza in the Kruger National Park, will close for renovations, however temporary facilities are in place to cater for visitors.
Work on the area will be done in three phases. The first phase entails the creation of Tindlovu Express, which will offer freshly prepared on-the-go food and freshly brewed coffee. The Express will open to the public in December this year. Along with this, the curio shop will also be given a fresh look and receive a stock of new items.
The second phase of the renovation includes the construction of a restaurant, children’s play area and a tree house, and will be completed in early 2019.
The final phase is the inclusion of a spa that will offer a full range of treatments, an overnight hide, and new guided walks. This phase will be completed on the latter part of 2019.
On completion, Afsaal will look like a timeless African lodge, modelled on Tindlovu’s latest restaurant in i’langa Mall, Nelspruit. The i’langa restaurant will serve not only as the prototype for Afsaal, but also for all other Tindlovu restaurants in the Kruger National Park, Punda Maria, Shingwedzi, Mopani, Letaba, Olifants, Satara and Berg en Dal. Work at these restaurants will begin next year.
The next restaurant to be added to the portfolio will open at the Lowveld National Botanical Garden in Nelspruit.
