South African Tourism has become one of the first members of Inspire Global, a new trade organisation focused on creating a global community for the promotion of sustainable, positive impact tourism.
Established in the UK, Inspire Global comprises a diverse global travel community of 57 members, including destinations, suppliers, tour operators, travel agents, media and industry partners.
Other members representing southern and East Africa include suppliers Asilia Africa, Volcanoes Safaris and Hodi Hodi.
Byron Shirto, CEO of Inspire Global, said: “With the realisation that there was a heart-warming shift in attitudes post-pandemic, towards rebuilding tourism sustainably and ethically, it seemed a natural decision to launch a new and refreshing kind of trade community. Building a proactive, credible, and accountable community will promote best practice amongst members, encouraging them to fulfil their potential to do better.”
Shirto said Inspire Global aimed to promote a wider understanding of tourism as a vital contributor in creating socio-cultural, environmental and economic benefits.
Inspire Global works with partners to help members understand the importance of reducing carbon emissions, protecting nature and reducing plastic use.
Members gain access to networking and partnership opportunities and educational resources such as online courses, webinars, training and research reports.
Justin Wateridge, MD of Steppes Travel and an Inspire Global Ambassador, said the platform would allow for collaboration and sharing of best practices.
“This is the only way that the travel industry can become the force for good that it has the potential to be. Inspire Global enables such communication, creativity, and commitment.”
