South African Tourism continues to leverage the global cultural club music sensation, Amapiano. To continue its efforts, the marketing organisation is set to participate in next week’s Amapiano Africa Summit taking place in Newtown, Johannesburg on July 18 to 20.
As a powerful cultural export, Amapiano has positioned South Africa as a premier cultural destination, showcasing the nation's creativity and innovation. The genre's global popularity highlights the talent and vibrancy of South African artists, fostering a deep appreciation for the country's cultural heritage and modern artistic expression.
The Amapiano Africa Summit aims to celebrate and promote Amapiano music and culture on a global scale. The summit will bring together key industry professionals, passionate youth, Amapiano enthusiasts, visionary fashion designers, and innovative brands.
This gathering will help in building discussions, forge connections, and pave the way for the future of Amapiano. By hosting panel discussions, masterclasses, and conversations about the genre, the summit provides a platform for knowledge sharing and industry growth.
Additionally, the summit aims to unite African creatives, promote socio-economic development and create opportunities for young entrepreneurs within the local music industry.
South African Tourism is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of South African arts and culture, said Thembi Sehloho, Chief Marketing Officer of South African Tourism.
“We recognise the importance of archiving our success stories, such as the rise of Amapiano, to ensure that future generations can appreciate and learn from our rich cultural heritage. Our commitment goes beyond just promoting these cultural assets; we aim to document and preserve the narratives that shape our national identity.”
According to Sehloho, this involves creating a comprehensive archive of South Africa's musical and cultural achievements, enabling us to showcase the evolution and impact of our arts on a global stage.
“Our involvement in this event aligns with our mission to enhance the global appeal of South Africa as a vibrant cultural destination. As part of our participation, South African Tourism will deliver an address at the gala dinner on July 18.”
Additionally, the organisation will host the ‘Amapiano International Impact’ panel discussion on July 19, bringing together industry experts to explore the genre's global influence and its role in positioning South Africa as a cultural hub.
“The participation of South African Tourism in the Amapiano Africa Summit underscores our commitment to promoting South Africa as a vibrant and dynamic cultural destination. This event provides a unique opportunity to showcase the rich cultural heritage of South Africa, drive international tourism, and foster socio-economic growth,” said Sehloho.
