Uganda has opened a culture park in China. The park is geared to promote tourism to Uganda and was opened by Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga.
Located in the Kaifu District of Hunan Province in China, the park is situated on 40 hectares of forest and lakes and features sculpted art pieces of Ugandan wildlife – chimpanzees, mountain gorillas, lions and other game.
At the opening ceremony, Kadaga noted that the park had already been visited by a number of Chinese families and had set itself up as a way to sell Uganda. “Not many people know about Uganda and this is a very powerful way of marketing the country,” she said.
The park’s proprietor, Bob Wang, said: “We regard this park as the door to Africa and a window for the Chinese to discover Uganda.” He explained that there were plans to expand, to showcase Ugandan arts and crafts and to help educate visitors on Uganda’s history, culture and heritage.
Kadaga encouraged the people of China to go to Uganda and have a feel of real wildlife.
The partnership between Uganda and the Hunan Province is extensive, with the two having signed a memorandum of understanding in June for investment and trade co-operation.
